When the men of the hit show Duck Dynasty work up an appetite, they head to Ms. Kay's kitchen. One of their favorite treats is her world-famous banana pudding.

You may recognize the Robertson clan from West Monroe from their hit reality TV show Duck Dynasty. As owners of Duck Commander and Buck Commander, the Robertsons take full advantage of Louisiana’s diverse fishing and hunting opportunities. Each episode of Duck Dynasty ends with the family gathered around the table for some of Ms. Kay's (the family matriarch) delicious home cooking.


Here, she shares how to make her prize-winning banana pudding, one of her favorite recipes and one of the Robertsons' favorite desserts.


If your family and friends have appetites like the Robertsons, you may want to make a double batch. As Ms. Kay says, “At Duck Commander, you always go for double.”

Ingredients for Ms. Kay's Banana Pudding:

  • 2 sticks of butter 
  • 2 cups of sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon of salt 
  • 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour 
  • 1 12-ounce can of evaporated milk 
  • 3/4 cup of milk 
  • 6 egg yolks 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 1 bag vanilla wafers 
  • 2 bananas, sliced 

Method of Preparation:

  1. In a large double boiler, melt the butter.
  2. Add the sugar, salt, flour, evaporated milk and regular milk. Stir with a whisk.
  3. Add the egg yolks to the mixture, constantly stirring until thick. Add the vanilla extract.
  4. Place the vanilla wafers and bananas into a 9-inch-by-13-inch dish.
  5. Pour in the mixture. Chill before serving.
