Contemporary Italian cooking with a focus on house made, seasonal, farm to table ingredients. House-made pasta, antipasti and salumi from the kitchen of husband/wife chefs David and Torre Solazzo, three-time nominees for the James Beard Award. Reservations recommended. Serves lunch 11:30-2:30pm, dinner 4:30-10:00 pm. Happy Hour Tuesday-Friday, 4:30-6pm.
In June of 2002, David and Torre opened a modest, 10-table restaurant in the heart of Covington, Louisiana, and so began a venture that would continue to expand as it earned accolades. In 2003 they were awarded the title of Best New Restaurant by New Orleans Magazine. In 2006, they were named Best Italian Restaurant in the New Orleans area by the Times Picayune. Since then, Del Porto Ristorante has been named one of the Times Picayune Top Ten Restaurants in New Orleans 2007 – 2011, and earned a place among Zagat's Top Rated Zagat's Restaurant Guide. David and Torre were semi-finalists for Best Chef South by the James Beard Foundation 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2011 they were given the St Tammany president's arts award naming them both as "culinary artist of the year", and received the Best of Show Savory Award at the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE).
