Spend a relaxing afternoon in Fairview-Riverside State Park on the calm waters of the Tchefuncte River. Visitors can also access the expansive Lake Pontchartrain, just a few minutes from the park, for seemingly endless exploration. As you paddle past the park’s moss-draped trees, remember that the area is known for yielding tremendous perch, bream and channel catfish where the river meets the lake.

When you’re to be back on land wander through a canopy of huge oak trees. Your family can enjoy the park’s picnic areas, group pavilion and playground. Before you head home, stop by the nearby Maritime Museum Louisiana to learn more about the state’s waterways. You’ll venture through the history of early explorers, the steamboat era and the Civil War.
