Kaplan

Kaplan is a Vermilion Parish town whose history is tied to transportation and the agricultural operations that are found throughout the region. In 1902, a portion of the Southern Pacific Railroad was built through town, connecting it to Gueydan and Abbeville. Today, two prominent highways also pass through Kaplan; Highway 35 south of the city take visitors to the abundant waterways leading to the Gulf of Mexico, where crabbing, fishing and hunting are both a pastime and a way of life.
