Goldonna

Located in the northeast corner of Natchitoches Parish, Goldonna is home to one of the oldest salt wells in Louisiana. The Indians made use of the wells, and it was a major salt supply for Confederate forces during the Civil War.

Incorporated in 1898, Goldonna was a railroad stop until the late 1980s. Where the tracks once lay now is home to Louisiana Trails, an outdoor recreational trail linking many towns and parishes.

The trail passes over many small streams and bayous and is open year around. From Sibley, Louisiana Trails extend south and southeast as a 63-mile-long corridor to the city of Winnfield. The trail is excellent for hiking, biking, horseback riding and ATVs.

The Drake Salt Works Festival is held every year on Labor Day weekend and celebrates the history of Goldonna with music, food and children's activities.
