Historic Donaldsonville was founded in 1806 and is located where the Mississippi River and Bayou Lafourche meet. Donaldsonville was once home of the State Capitol of Louisiana, two Louisiana Governors (Johnson & Nicholls), Pierre Landry, the first elected Black Mayor in the United States, and world-renowned Chef John Folse. Religious, political, African American, and jazz history lives here.
