Designated as a Louisiana Scenic Stream, the Tangipahoa is a pretty and challenging river. There are obstacles and shoals along the upper and middle parts of the river. The river’s many sand-gravel bars make for good camping. The river originates northwest of McComb, Miss., and runs south through the Percy Quinn Reservoir before passing into southeast Louisiana. Its mouth opens into the northwest region of Lake Pontchartrain. For more information see the Tangipahoa Convention & Visitors Bureau at TangiTourism.com or call 800-617-4505.
