Frogmore Cotton Plantation & Gins and the Delta Music Museum together relate the Who and Why of Delta Cotton Plantations and how those talented few created America's music.

A visit to the Ferriday/Vidalia area is incomplete without experiencing all three facets of our Delta lifestyle:  gracious town homes of the wealthy elite in Natchez; Frogmore, a working cotton plantation and gins to experience how that wealth was created in the French and Spanish Louisiana Natchez District; & the Delta Music Museum to understand how music was interwoven in the culture.  Frogmore, seven miles west of Ferriday, compares and contrasts a working cotton plantation from 1790 through today. Visitors experience a thorough explanation of slave culture, including the European involvement in North American slavery, the legalities of slavery, the flaws in the emancipation, the trials and triumphs of freedom, and a new life called sharecropping.  Then, contrast that with modern technology by touring the 1800 acre working cotton plantation and computerized cotton gin.  Owners & guides give superior narration.  Frogmore offers both a rare antique steam gin and high-tech modern gin with touch screen control panels, 19 antebellum outbuildings.  Eight are furnished and visited during the tour.  WE HAVE COTTON TO PICK TEN MONTHS OF THE YEAR.   Highlights of the modern tour include learning about today's cotton technology, touring the most completely computerized cotton gin in the nation, and understanding unusual cotton trivia, worldwide production, and botanical aspects of the plant.

Next stop is the Delta Music Museum to see how and why music interplayed daily in the lives of those destined to be from cotton country.  Then see how that earlier music transformed into blues, ragtime, jazz, rhythm & blues, rock 'n' roll and country.  The Delta Music Museum is the Hall of Fame and houses informative life histories of the inductees such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, Fats Domino, Percy Sledge, Aaron Neville, Conway Twitty and many more.  The guides share witty and intimate stories about their lives not known to the general public.

The Arcade of Performing Arts Theater is part of the museum and offers musical presentations, special events, and catered lunches or suppers for groups, Rentals for weddings & meetings are available.  218 Louisiana Avenue in Ferriday.
