There’s just something about New Orleans that draws those productions that lean toward the eerie and paranormal. American Horror Story filmed two seasons in the Big Easy; Season 4’s “Freak Show” was set in Florida, but New Orleans really shines its supernatural light in Season 3’s “Coven.” From a story involving the Queen of Voodoo herself, Marie Laveau, to a finishing school for witches in training, the city is one of the leading stars.

New Orleans has a wealth of mysterious attractions, and many of them received screen time in this anthology. Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies is housed in the Buckner Mansion on Jackson Avenue in the Garden District. Although the Mansion is not open to the public, you can still stroll by and catch a selfie there…check your picture carefully, as the place is rumored to be haunted by Miss Josephine, a former slave of the Buckner family.

The Mansion is just a few blocks from Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, a frequent star of New Orleans-set movies and shows and the setting for some witchy shenanigans in American Horror Story’s “Coven.” The oldest cemetery in New Orleans, its influence has crossed into literature via Anne Rice’s The Witching Hour.
