Golden Meadow is a small Cajun Country town on Highway 1, which is the main route through Lafourche Parish and its numerous fishing communities. It was home to Cajun settlers, American Indians and intrepid explorers for centuries before it became an actual city, however. That occurred somewhat recently, in 1950, when the Golden Meadow Women's Club successfully lobbied for Gov. Earl K. Long to incorporate it.
Many charter boat outfitters call Golden Meadow home, and its captains are experts at getting guests out to where the big fish are biting. The Golden Meadow-Fourchon International Tarpon Rodeo is a wildly popular three-day event that welcomes some of the best fishermen and biggest catches in Louisiana's Gulf of Mexico waters. Seafood is plentiful down here, and you'll find numerous vendors offering fresh catches and cooked seafood alike.
