Coushatta

Coushatta, population 2,200, is a small town on the banks of the Red River, 45 miles south of Shreveport. Civil War soldiers founded Coushatta in the 1870s, though today it is better known for being the Red River Parish seat and home to no fewer than seven college campuses. The Famous Natchitoches Meat Pie Company has its operations here. True story; the state legislature bestowed that honor on Natchitoches meat pies in 2003.
