June is the month to make a Louisiana State Park or Historic Site your destination! There is lots of fun to be had, especially with National Fishing & Boating week and National Get Outdoors Day coming up soon! Here’s just a short list of great events to put on your calendar.
• Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site, St. Francisville - 6/9/2017 to 6/11/2017
The Day the War Stopped, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. In conjunction with the Town of St. Francisville´s annual commemoration of a temporary truce between the Union and the Confederacy to tend to their dead, the site will display information about Civil War medical and burial practices in the Gift Shop Conference Room and in the Plantation Doctor´s Office. • Audubon State Historic Site, St. Francisville - 6/10/2017
After the Battle, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. After the guns of the battlefield grow silent comes help for the wounded. Come to Audubon State Historic Site and explore the world of Civil War medicine and surgery. View what a temporary field hospital would have looked like in this display and demonstration. Explore the world of medicine in the Civil War as we look at how disease and illness was treated by the armies of either side. • Poverty Point World Heritage Site, Pioneer - 6/10/2017
Ranger-Guided Hike, 10 a.m. Visitors are invited to accompany a ranger on a 2.6-mile hike around the prehistoric site. • Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site, Natchitoches - 6/14/2017 to 6/16/2017
Leap into the Past Summer Camp: Colonial Cooking, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Children age 5-12 can become immersed in 18th-century life by participating in period cooking methods. Campers will also learn how to build a bread oven! Registration for each camp is $50; children attending multiple camps will receive a discount price of $30 after attending one camp at full price. Dutch Oven Cooking, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join the Bogue Chitto Dutch Oven Cookers, a chapter of the Louisiana Dutch Oven Society, for a Dutch Oven Gathering, as they prepare a variety of dishes in this outdoor cooking method that is growing in popularity. More Info.

Conversations Around the Coffee Pot, 9 - 10:30 a.m. This program provides Cajun French speakers an opportunity to gather and converse monthly to reconnect with their culture, as well as provide visitors with firsthand experiences of traditional Acadian activities. Dutch Oven Cooking, 10 a.m. - noon. The park will host the Latanier Cookers, a chapter of the Louisiana Dutch Oven Society, for a cooking demonstration and sampling. Participants can learn about this increasingly popular form of cooking, the actual Dutch oven pots and much more. More Info.
