We often say Louisiana celebrates absolutely everything with a festival, and we certainly don’t forget to fête the state’s storied literary history and thriving writing culture. Whether you're young or old, can't get enough of poetry or love to cook up some great Louisiana dishes, The Louisiana Book Festival has something for every book lover. This world-class literary celebration is the largest book festival in the state and takes place each fall. The best part? It's free and open to the public!

The festival features more than 200 authors, scholars, poets, and panelists and more than 100 programs and exhibitors throughout the day in the area near the State Capitol, State Library, and Capitol Park Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. Each year, the Louisiana Writer Award recognizes an author for their outstanding contributions to Louisiana’s literary and intellectual life. This is your chance to meet exceptional writers while enjoying book-related activities and presentations, and get your holiday shopping started with dozens of exhibitors! And—since this is a Louisiana festival after all—there is delicious food and live music all day long.

While you’re in downtown Baton Rouge—check out the Louisiana State Capitol Building to see the festival from 27 stories up high and visit the Capitol Park Museum to explore more of the history and culture of the most vibrant state in America.
