It was a sultry August morning when we arrived at Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World with New Orleans-based photographer Gabrielle Geiselman-Milone. It's such a spectacular venue, we chose it as the backdrop to capture the cover image for the 2020 Official Louisiana Visitors Guide. Our subject was one of the hottest music artists of the year, Louisiana's Lauren Daigle. For nearly a year, she'd been acting officially as an #OnlyLouisiana Ambassador to the state of Louisiana, sharing her love for our state and inviting everyone at her shows to come for a visit.
Just after noon, Lauren blew in with the breeze off the Mississippi River with her signature soulful style, making her trademark glamorous bohemian statement. Her bright smile somehow further energizing the already astounding warehouse. Between costume and set changes, we had a few minutes alone with Lauren. "My favorite thing about traveling in Louisiana is that there's always something wild around the corner," she said. Adding, "there's a culture here, a heritage that can only be found in Louisiana. You've gotta come feed your soul." Watch below to see behind-the-scenes video from the photo shoot.
Mardi Gras World is a multicolored extravaganza–bringing Mardi Gras to life throughout the year–literally. If you love Carnival and you haven't been, we implore you to add it to your #OnlyLouisiana bucket list. Founded in 1947 and opened as a visitor attraction in 1984, they're the architect, designer and fabricator of some of the most extravagant floats you'll ever see. Visitors can take a tour to learn about the history of New Orleans Mardi Gras, explore props from years past and marvel at the float-making for the coming year's celebration.
