Drop a line in one of Louisiana's State Parks or head down to the Gulf for world class fishing.

Did you know that nationally, more than 658 million vacation days go unused each year? Project Time Off is advocating for America’s workers to take the time off they’ve earned and we’re on board! This year, we challenge you to plan ahead and stop treating vacation days like a time bank. Don’t fall victim to  “America’s Lost Week.”

Let’s all resolve to step away from work, #TakeADay and #OptOutside more often. Even if you can’t break away for weeks at a time, there are plenty of opportunities for a long weekend (or day trip!) in Louisiana.

1. Go for a Spin.

Whether you enjoy riding the scenic roadways, taking a leisurely bike tour, or taking your two wheels off the road, Louisiana's got plenty of great options for cyclists. Louisiana boasts some of the best mountain biking trails in the south at Sam Houston Jones State Park and Ruston’s Lincoln Parish Park. Road cyclists enjoy the hills of St. Francisville or the flats of St. Tammy Parish’s Tammany Trace. Check out biking opportunities throughout Louisiana.

2. Drop a Line.

You can go fishing anywhere, but you’ll always catch fish in Louisiana! North Louisiana is home to some of the best largemouth bass and crappie fishing in the world. In fact, Toledo Bend was named the Best Bass Lake in the U.S. in 2015 and 2016 by Bassmaster Magazine. Head south and hit the marshes for a day to catch red fish and speckled trout. If you’re looking for the big ones, try your luck offshore with one of our hundreds of experienced charter boat captains. Start researching your Louisiana fishing getaway.

3. Keep Calm and Paddle on.

Paddle in Louisiana

Love to kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard? We’ve got you covered. Louisiana’s waterways are as diverse as our landscapes. Paddle through Spanish moss-draped swamps, try your luck at kayak fishing in the marshes, or go for a leisurely SUP in the flat waters of our lakes. Check out the paddle trails across the state or sign up for an event.

4. Park it.

For the ultimate in outdoors R&R, look no further than our Louisiana State Parks. You can bike, fish, hike, horseback ride and paddle your days away, then spend the evenings relaxing by the campfire and gazing at the stars. With cabins, bunkhouses, RV hookups, and both rustic and improved campsites, you’ll find accommodations to suit most anyone. Learn more about our state parks.

5. Hit the Road - Literally.

Louisiana Marathon finish fest

Mark your calendar for 2020 and start training. The Louisiana Marathon is one of many road races across the Bayou State each year. Will be Celebrating its ninth year in Baton Rouge in 2020, the race traverses through Baton Rouge, past the University Lakes, around LSU’s campus and through historic neighborhoods. The race finishes with a one-of-a-kind celebration that features live music, Louisiana food and plenty of frosty Louisiana brews.

There are countless ways to #TakeADay in Louisiana's great outdoors. No matter how you get outdoors, you'll find fun ways to feed your soul in Louisiana.
