The woods of Lake Claiborne provide great biking and hiking opportunities. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, and nature tours are available regularly. The Whispering Pines Bike Trail offers a good workout through the hills and ravines surrounding the lake. Take water along for refreshing pauses. If you like, you can also swim, fish or camp overnight here. Boaters are fond of the lake for non-fishing recreation as well. The lake itself, at full reservoir level, has a surface area of 6,400 acres. A sandy beach situated on an inlet of the lake is protected from boats and water skiers.
So work up an appetite for that fresh fish supper by taking a brisk swim in Lake Claiborne's famous clear water. Ecologists and sportsmen hail the lake's excellent water quality. A park naturalist is available to offer information and guided hikes. From I-20 at Minden take Highway 79 north, then head east on LA 518.
