About 20 miles of the ride is along scenic Bayou Black. At the 14-mile point, you can stop and take a tour of the Wildlife Gardens. The tour features a walk through a cypress swamp that is home to a variety of south Louisiana birds, flowers and animals. At the 20-mile point, you will reach Gibson. Jean’s Cajun Country Store provides a good stop for refreshments.

The ride continues north through a swamp toward Thibodaux. There, you can visit the Jean Lafitte Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, which features exhibits about the lives of Acadians and others whose have lived amid Louisiana’s bayous. The center's bookstore has music, children's books and craft items for sale. Back in Houma, visit the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum on Park Avenue. Or, consider a walking tour of the town’s historic district. You can get a self-guided tour map at the Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
