Grand Coteau is situated on what was (2,000 years ago) the west bank of the Mississippi and now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is a sloping ridge (coteau). Magnificent live oaks and trees form alleys, groves and gardens. More than 70 structures are designated as architecturally significant. Visit the shrine at the Academy of Sacred Heart, browse antique and gift shops and eat local cuisine. Most shops and restaurants are housed in renovated, historic buildings.
