Red River Revel, a festival of arts and music
It’s an unusual way to celebrate the best in visual and performing arts, and a great reason to visit Shreveport during the month of October.
The annual Red River Revel is an eight-day celebration that combines music, visual art works and great Louisiana food with an educational experience aimed at nurturing the arts.
For more than three decades this nonprofit arts festival, staged by thousands of volunteers, has celebrated and paid tribute to the finest in visual and performing arts. Held in Shreveport’s Festival Plaza, the festival showcases more than 100 visual artists from around the country, and features live music on four performance stages.
A key feature of the event is its emphasis on providing arts education for children. Along with music, food, live performances and arts displays, the Big Red Ferris wheel and dozens of kid-friendly activities offer plenty of family fun.
The Red River Revel has been featured on ABC television’s “Good Morning America!” and has been recognized as one of the country’s top arts festival by publications including AAA’s “Southern Traveler.” The Southeastern Tourism Society named it one of the top 20 events in the region.
