Paddling Bayou Teche and the Lower Atchafalaya River offers a glimpse into Louisiana’s rich vegetation. This 10-mile trail highlights habitats for wading birds, neotropical songbirds, waterfowl and amphibians. Plus, the area offers a bit of history: It was the site of the Battle of Bisland, which resulted in a sunken ship.

Stop in Patterson, once home to two young aviation pioneers, Harry Williams and Jimmie Wedell. The nearby Wedell-Williams Aviation and Cypress Sawmill Museum features a fascinating aviation exhibit that details their work.
