An eclectic blend of urban and untamed beauty trace central Louisiana’s Bayou Jean de Jean. Navigate twists and turns near the town of Boyce, where you’ll see railroad tracks, bridges and historical downtown buildings. As you reach the end of the bayou, the knees of gorgeous old-growth cypress trees jut from the water, and an abundance of birds like egrets, herons and kingfishers teem.

While you’re nearby, take a deep dive into American history with the Northup Trail. Follow the path of Solomon Northup, a free man of color who was enslaved for 12 years in central Louisiana. The trail will take you to historic locations such as Epps House, the Bunkie Depot and the Avoyelles Parish Courthouse.
