Property Description

Built in 1838, the Old Arsenal Poweder Magazine is located on the grounds of the Louisiana State Capitol. It was an important military post, used several times during conflicts in the development of the southwest, the Mexican war and Civil War. Later, the Arsenal building was part of the first campus of Louisiana State University. The museum's exhibits explain the use of gunpowder and cannons to defend the site.
