He will focus mainly the on the uniforms and weapons that the Mexicans used. The Texas Revolution began when Texas declared itself independent from Mexico after years of conflict with Santa Anna and the Mexican government. Santa Anna led 6000 men at the battle of the Alamo against approximately 200 Texans, and he trapped these Texans inside the mission's walls in a siege and defeated them. Santa Anna then moved quickly to destroy Sam Houston's small Texas Army. Santa Anna encountered the Texans at San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. Houston's men routed Santa Anna's troops and captured Santa Anna, effectively securing Texan independence.Richard Gentry is a board member of the Friends of the North Louisiana Military Museum and has been a re-enactor for over thirty years.
