Property Description

Vocalists and guitarists Gary Buchanan and Ron Cosby of the Shreveport/Bossier area will perform a wide selection of mountain folk and river bluegrass music as part of the library's monthly S.E.L.L.S. (Seniors Enjoying Life & Library Services) program. Gary Buchanan and Ron Cosby refer to themselves as "The Switch," as they are one half of a bluegrass band known as "County Switch." Both musicians have a firm background in bluegrass and mountain folk music, featuring mostly old and obscure mountain tunes. They strive to preserve them and keep them alive in a historical format with some musical "sparkle" to brighten them up a bit. Since they both came from a mountain background (Gary from the Appalachians and Ron from the Ozarks), they have discovered a common thread in culture and in music. The duo are not above tossing in a little modern folk or bluegrass, with even a touch of old or obscure country tunes as well. The two have played for over forty years. Ron was a prominent sound in the band of the successful Louisiana fiddle champion, Jules Lazion. Gary toured with the recording artist Claude King of "Wolverton Mountain" fame, then came home and joined the Louisiana Hayride for several wonderful years. Gary and Ron have continued to perform at festivals, wakes, funerals, weddings and even a few dogfights. This is part of the S.E.L.L.S. (Seniors Enjoying Life and Library Services) monthly series
