New Orleans is world's top nightlife destination

New Orleans was named the No. 1 destination in the world for nightlife in a May 2010 ranking released by TripAdvisor. The travel service’s Annual Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards also recognized the city with these honors:

• No. 3 in the United States among the Top Food and Wine Destinations;

• No. 4 in the world among the Top Food and Wine Destinations;

• No. 9 among the Top Culture and Sightseeing Destinations in the United States; and

• No. 15 among the Top Destinations in the United States overall.

New Orleans competed against New York, Las Vegas, Buenos Aires and London, solidifying the city’s status as a premier leisure destination. TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards are based on millions of real and unbiased reviews and opinions from travelers on TripAdvisor.com®. The winners were determined by a combination of travelers’ destination comments, favorite places and overall destination popularity on TripAdvisor.

Stephen Perry, president of the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau, said, the rankings show that New Orleans is gaining stature “as the hottest new city in America for travelers to escape and indulge in authentic nightlife, food and wine.” He added that the city is “a sensory place where travelers can be a little bit different and let their everyday pressures and boundaries melt away.”
