Louisiana Recipe: Rangoon Gin Fizz Cocktail
The original Ramos Gin Fizz was a favorite of legendary Louisiana governor Huey P. Long.
When summer dials up the heat in Louisiana, we say, “No sweat,” and pour another cocktail. Atlanta bartender Eric Simpkins created this floral take on the original Ramos Gin Fizz, a New Orleans classic and favorite of Louisiana governor Huey P. Long. Simpkins’ Rangoon Gin Fizz was named Official Cocktail of Tales of the Cocktail 2011. The annual festival, with seminars, dinners, competitions and events, celebrates our cocktail culture.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Old Raj Gin, Blue Label
3/4 oz. lime juice
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. heavy cream
5 drops simple cardamom tincture
3 dashes Fee Brothers Jasmine Water
1 egg white
7 drops absinthe
1 oz Fever-Tree Bitter Lemon Tonic soda
Method of preparation:
Ice a tall Collins glass. Combine ingredients except tonic and absinthe in small cocktail shaker. Remove ice from glass, swirl with absinthe and discard excess. Add tonic to glass. Shake other ingredients vigorously to chill. Strain into Collins glass (without ice) through fine strainer. Slide tall thin straw through center of foam and serve.
