Celebration Distillation, Makers of Old New Orleans Rum
New Orleans – our dark and mysterious port city, bravely built by hardened adventurers, previously refuge to pirates and scoundrels, home to Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Super Bowls and all surrounded by miles and miles of sweet, fresh sugar cane. As New Orleans enters its third century, it's hard to imagine a better place to invoke the highest form of our natural spirit.
Old New Orleans Rum comes out of the back streets of our legendary Ninth Ward neighborhood. Our founder, James Michalopoulos, is a renowned painter and sculptor who visually defines New Orleans. His swirling, almost hallucinogenic figures capture the architecture, the automotive, the personalities, the lifestyle, even the sultry humidity of our town. A coup among artists is to be chosen to execute the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival annual poster. James has done six of them. His art has actually become part of New Orleans – his work is seen all over publicly; and it's quite common to find a living room in the city that boasts one of his images. In 1995, James got together artists, master brewmasters, and a couple of clever engineers to create a locally-produced masterpiece. Rum was a natural choice and they endeavored to keep it natural. For example, sugar cane is usually pressed several times producing less and less sweet syrup; unlike other rum-makers, we use only the first two pressings. It took years and an unbelievable number of batches that weren't quite right until we finally crafted the exact profile that smiles and says "Let's Celebrate."
We source our molasses locally and our barrels are American Oak, charred and used only once before by fine whiskey-makers. Our rum is created batch-by-batch in a 150 year old cotton warehouse. We are committed to an extraordinary customer experience, supporting our local economy, and creating a rum worthy of the celebration that is New Orleans.
