Cabildo, Louisiana State Museum
The Cabildo on Jackson Square is perhaps Louisiana's most historic site. Here in 1803, the Louisiana Purchase was signed transferring that huge territory from France to the United States. Earlier, the building served as the seat of Spanish rule in Louisiana. Today, the beautifully-restored Cabildo is a flagship property of the Louisiana State Museum presenting permanent and changing exhibits on Louisiana history, art, and culture. Now on view: "The Secret History of Louisiana Rock & Roll."
