Camp Moore was the largest Confederate training camp in Louisiana and the only Confederate training camp still open to the public. Opened in May 1861 as a site to organize, train and disperse soldiers from Louisiana to all points of the Confederacy, it saw as many as 35,000 men cross this ground. These sons of Louisiana fought in most every major and many minor battles for four long years in the South's bid to attain independence.
