Haney's Big House in Ferriday

The Delta Music Museum offers exhibits on numerous notable rock and blues musicians with ties to the central Louisiana region, honoring them as Hall of Fame inductees. Artists profiled include Fats Domino, Percy Sledge, Aaron Neville, Irma Thomas, Conway Twitty, Leon “Pee Wee” Whitaker, former Louisiana Governor Jimmie Davis, and William Haney - who ran a famous juke joint called Haney's Big House on the chitlin' circuit during the 1950's until it sadly burned down in 1966. Many iconic entertainers came through Haney's Big House during its prime.

The museum also tells the story of three Ferriday natives, cousins actually, who rose to national prominence in the 1950s. Jerry Lee Lewis became known nationwide as the wild-haired, piano-playing innovator of the rockabilly music genre, while Mickey Gilley found fame in country music – he charted over 30 Top 40 hits and opened up the world-famous club bearing his name in Houston. Their cousin Jimmy Swaggart became one of the nation’s most successful television evangelists.

Sharing the museum’s focus with the cousins’ story are exhibits interpreting the significant role the central Louisiana Mississippi River region played in the evolution of Southern blues and R&B, gospel and country. Visitors can view artifacts tied to notable names, multimedia exhibits of live performances, frequent live music demonstrations inside the museum and at the restored Arcade Theater Performing Arts Center next door.
