Scenic north Louisiana hill country frames any visit to Claiborne Parish, where inviting towns, lively festivals, pristine parks, lakes and wide-open spaces await over practically every rise along the rolling landscape. The Claiborne Parish Jubilee fills Homer's historic town square with music, dancing, art and crafts in May. The Celebration of the Butterflies in Haynesville is another of the area’s festival highlights that draws visitors each September. Other historic communities, like Athens, Lisbon, Arizona and Summerfield, are known for boutique shopping, country stores and their own seasonal festivals. Lodges and guides offer private deer and quail hunting expeditions; golf, country and bluegrass music and Southern country cooking are also consistent area attractions. Lake Claiborne State Park has 620 acres of all types of outdoor recreation, and the parish is also home to approximately 20,000 acres of the Kisatchie National Forest, spanning bottomlands, flowering meadows and piney woods.
