See how early area pioneers lived, gaze at the stars, explore the history of the mighty Eighth Air Force, see where Elvis Presley got his start, or catch a great independent film at the Robinson Film Center. Here are a few highlights.

The Robinson Film Center

A great complement to the growing film industry in Shreveport-Bossier, Robinson Film Center is located in the West Edge Arts District. It highlights independent, international and classic cinema, in addition to local and regional films, and serves as a resource for film production and media education. The film center has hosted special screenings featuring Val Kilmer, Oliver Stone and Margaret Avery. And Abby Singer's Bistro is a great spot for a delicious lunch or dinner overlooking downtown Shreveport.

Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center

The 92,000-square-foot Sci-Port offers hundreds of hands-on exhibits, workshops, science shows, eight interactive areas, a gift shop and a café. Located along the riverfront, Sci-Port also houses Louisiana’s only IMAX Dome Theater and the world’s first open-access, interactive laser planetarium. In 2008, the Sci-Port was named one of the Top 10 science centers in the nation by Parents magazine.

Stage of Stars Museum

Music lovers and history buffs will love the Stage of Stars Museum and Municipal Auditorium, at 705 Elvis Presley Ave., in Shreveport. Both Elvis Presley and Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter are among artists featured in the museum, which uncovers stories of the area's legendary musical people and places. The museum features memorabilia from the heyday of the Louisiana Hayride, a radio show broadcast from the Municipal Auditorium from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. A bronze statue of Elvis greets visitors here, along with a statue of one of his favorite sidemen, local guitar legend James Burton.

Louisiana Boardwalk

On the banks of the Red River in Bossier City lies the Louisiana Boardwalk Promenade. It’s the largest outlet, lifestyle, dining and entertainment destination in Louisiana. You'll find riverfront dining, a comedy club, seasonal events and more, along with terrific shopping that includes Bass Pro Shops. Explore more than 60 restaurants, outlet shops and entertainment options among the fun of a carousel ride, a trolley and various seasonal events. For those looking to catch a glimpse of a real alligator, just peek into the alligator pool to see several soaking up the sun. Take the Texas Street Bridge – the longest neon-framed bridge in the nation – across the Red River to RiverView Park in downtown Shreveport. The park features a promenade of dancing water fountains, an amazing cascading water fountain, 35-foot-tall steel roses that change colors at night and an outdoor amphitheater.
