Atchafalaya National Heritage Area

Enjoy outdoor experiences in a culturally-rich region sometimes referred to as the "Other Glades." A diverse ecosystem, coastlines, swamps, rivers and marshes provide a backdrop for birding, wildlife watching, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling.  The Heritage Area is 150 miles long and encompasses 2 national park cultural centers, 6 national wildlife refuges, 2 state parks, 24 historic districts, 300 historic sites, 100 museums, 9 Main Street programs, and is home to our mouth-watering Cajun cuisine.
