Annual 4th of July celebration in Baton Rouge

A 4th of July celebration somehow takes on greater meaning when it unfolds in a historic military setting. So it is with Independence Day in Baton Rouge, where the battleship USS KIDD, which is permanently at home on the Mississippi River, is the backdrop for visitors for food, drink, tours and an impressive fireworks display.

The day begins with a Freedom Festival at the USS KIDD featuring food and other concession booths from 11 am until 4 pm.  Kids will enjoy face painting, inflatables and obstacle courses. Join the fun in Red Stick Plaza, and take a tour of the USS KIDD Veterans Memorial and Museum.

The day wraps up with a nighttime display of spectacular fireworks over the river at 9:00 pm presented by WBRZ Channel 2.

Further down the river in south Baton Rouge, L' Auberge Casino and Hotel will host a celebration complete with a pool party, live music and more fireworks over the Mississippi River.  Click here for complete details.
