Accordian music is part of our Cajun heritage

If you're a fan of Cajun traditions or have always wanted to learn more about this amazing culture, plan a trip to Cajun Country for one of the most anticipated events of the year: Le Cajun Music Awards and Festival, considered the Grammy Awards for Cajun Music.

The three-day event, typically held in August, features a French speaking contest and an award ceremony honoring the best in Cajun music and musicians. See who'll take home the title of Best Accordionist, Best Fiddler, or Band of the Year from a list of nominees that includes local favorites and artists from around the country and globe. Le Cajun Music Awards is sponsored by the Cajun French Music Association.

Following the award show, take part in the Cajun French Music Festival. Past performers have included Geno Delafose; Le Jeune Gen. de Cajun; Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold; and Jackie Caillier, Ivy Dugas & the Cajun Cousins. During the event, visitors will enjoy not only top-notch Cajun music and dancing, but also – of course! –  great Cajun food along with unique arts and crafts displayed in an array of booths. You can even take the music home with you! Browse the many Cajun CDs you'll find for sale on the festival grounds. For more information, see CajunFrenchMusic.org and get ready for the Cajun competition of the year.

And don't miss Louisiana's biggest Cajun celebration, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, held each October!
